The scenes in question (in the Viz and Japanese versions) are a bit suggestive, showing them unclothed, but glowing,- no n*pples or parts are shown. They even put the whole story about the Princess and her kingdom and the Silver Crystal at LITERALLY THE BEGINNING of the show! The big mystery about WHO the Princess was that was kept under wraps until the end of the first season in the Japanese and Viz versions was literally put at the beginning of the show in the DiC version! Another thing they did was changing the transformation scenes in which the girls transform into superheroes (they're not REALLY superheroes, they're more like warriors). As well as giving them all THE most ANNOYING voices in anime dub history. They took all the violence, gay characters, basically all the really cool stuff and booted them all back to Japan, and replaced the pretty Japanese names with American names, like Usagi is now named Serena, Naru is now named Molly, Ami is now named.Amy, etc. The Viz dub kept all the stuff from the original Japanese version, while the DiC dub (which came first) censored a lot of things, as well as things that didn't need to be censored. The Viz dub and original Japanese sub have more violence (blood, close death, etc.) and language (Hell, D*mn), and LGBT characters. Younger kids may enjoy it but not understand what's going on in the show.ĭub or sub? Well, it mostly depends on the dub. It's a really good show for tweens and teens. There is a bit of violence but it isn't really extreme.

In the Japanese version (uncensored dub included) there is mild swearing, “Damn” “Hell” but nothing too severe. Everyone is different and if you're against that then you must really have nothing better to do with your time other than judging people so get over yourself if you're against lgbt. There is a villain later on who cross dresses,īig deal. The Sailor Starlights are male before they transform and then female. In season one, there is an (adorable) villain gay couple. Sailor Uranus appears to be gender fluid.

They are a lesbian couple but their relationship is subtle and honestly quite cute. There are great lessons and values, and lots of diversity including the LGBTQ+ Characters in the show Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are a good example. Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon, or Sailor Moon for short, is an amazing show with a great storyline about strong and relatable female superheroes fighting against evil. I rate Sailor Moon 5/5 stars and give it a rating of 13 and up. The only iffy part about that is episode 4, in which the monster tricks girls into thinking they're fat, but that episode is filler so if you are really that bad about body image issues and stuff you can just skip it entirely. And I see a lot of people talk about "body image issues" and this show but it's really not that bad. This show (especially before the climactic ending) has some sex, violence, and mild swearing but it is not too bad. If your kid really wants to watch Sailor Moon you should either watch the new dub or original sub together or have them wait until they are mature enough to handle the darker episodes that are plentiful. The 90's version of the English dub shall burn away in a fire. Just because this is a shoujo (anime/manga aimed at girls 10-18) it does not mean you can just watch it with the mindset that it's gonna be like Dora the Explorer. Sailor Moon is a great girl power show, but it gets DARK and maybe even a little scary for some. but they have not seen all of Sailor Moon! They say Madoka Magica and Yuki Yuuna are dark.
